Treat it as urgent
A hot plastic or fishy electrical odor often means overheating wires, a failing breaker, or a stressed outlet. It is not a βwait until Mondayβ problem if the smell is active.
What to do immediately
If you see smoke or flames, leave and call 911. If the smell is localized, shut off the affected breaker if you can do so safely, avoid using that circuit, and ventilate.
Do not ignore warm switch plates or discoloration around outlets.
Call emergency electrical help
Describe where the smell is strongest (kitchen, panel, outlet) and any recent work or appliance changes. Emergency Trades can help connect you with a local electrician for urgent assessment.
